People often wonder if there are any other life forms out there in the universe that are intelligent.

Of course at this time we do not know the answer to that question, we may never know.

But perhaps the strongest evidence we have so far that would suggest there is intelligent life out there would be the fact that they have not contacted us.

Idea snitched from JREF forum.

There might be intelligent life somewhere else but they may be so far away that they don't have the ability to contact us, just as we are not able to reach them.  We don't have that kind of technology yet.

I wish a technologically advanced species would threaten us with war.  Just a threat, but a credible one.

They could just threaten to steer a medium sized asteroid at us, one hit and it could wipe out the human infection on the surface of our planet if it was big enough.

Mind you I'm just hoping for the threat to happen, no actual harm.

It could be the best thing to happen to humanity ever, as it might unite us, however briefly, with a common purpose.

Of course once the aliens went away it would be Jeebus as usual.  With the killing, and the get the heretics, and the God Hates Nearly Everything.

Egads!  I don't wish that.  I live with enough fear already. Smiley

They probably took one look at our religious and political systems here on Earth, and decided that they would rather gouge their large black eyes out with a fork-like eating utensil than contact us. Or so I've heard. snork_lach

We would just try to kill them or worship them as saviors of humanity anyway. The human need to worship, revere, and then destroy things is probably a little, um, creepy to outside observers.

But any aliens out there might be just as much religious nutcases as humans are, if not worse.  Just consider the different races in the Halo universe.

It's possible that an alien race would be afflicted with religious delusions, granted, but it is also possible they might have outgrown superstition as they became technological and scientific.

I wish  we would outgrow stoopit religions, which, of course, would mean that no more religions were left.

Even if there are sentient being out there, it's likely that they're so far away that any signals haven't yet had time to reach us. I'm still wondering whether there's any intelligent life on Earth.
