Back in February world famous atheist, booze hound, and arrogantly pedantic snob Christopher Hitchens agreed to be put through the process of waterboarding in order to form his opinion about whether or not it is torture.

Personally, the fact that the US Government previously tried and convicted a Japanese officer for torture and violations of the Geneva Convention as a result of his use of waterboarding on US prisoners, well, that settles it for me. (link)

In 1968 US soldiers used waterboarding on Vietnamese prisoners during our imperialist war of aggression that ended in abject failure. (link)

But despite our intense personal dislike of Christopher Hitchens, it was a bold and brave move on his part to agree to be subjected to the same type of torture used by the US on innocent prisoners rounded up at random and held in our infamous Concentration Camp in Cuba. (definition)

Back to Mr Hitchens now:

In your opinion, does the fact that Jesus is on our side entitle the USA to break any and all international laws and brutalize people that we oppose because they are so brutal?

And if Jesus really is on our side, where the fuck was he on September 11th?

Awhile back, I read about Hitchens doing this.  He didn't last long with his waterboard experiment, did he?!  He has some odd political views that I don't understand--for instance I don't understand why he supports the war in Iraq.

In your opinion, does the fact that Jesus is on our side entitle the USA to break any and all international laws and brutalize people that we oppose because they are so brutal?

The decision should have nothing to do with Jesus.  My conscience tells me that waterboarding is wrong.  However, I might be horribly vicious behind closed doors to a criminal who hurt or kidnapped one of my kids.  That doesn't mean my behavior is correct but I would be desperate to do whatever I could to get info out of a criminal to save the life of my child.
