I was really surprised here lately when I got back on line, just how many assholes are out there trying to raise havoc on the internet, for no other purpose other than just to confirm their assholeness. I look at it as a statement of the condition of the world overall. People are miserable, fed up, tired, overworked, unemployed, and generally just pissed off and they show their frustrations by trying to cast their feelings on to everyone else using the web. Kind of like it's always been! But now they can use technology to spread their electronic graffiti all across the world. Then again . . maybe they're just assholes!
I think a lot of online nastiness can be accounted for by people venting the frustrations of their daily life. Maybe we all do a little of that from time to time. But the real assholes are not just venting, they have malicious intentions right from the beginning.
I see a lot of behind the scenes activity that might just be random online criminal activity, possibly the leading commercial activity in Russia, then sometimes I see patterns that seem to be directed precisely at one of the websites hosted here.
Either way the same defense strategy works on the server level. In a forum it seems reasonable to consider a persons motivation and intent for misbehaving, then act accordingly. But for people trying to hack into the server I don't care if it is personal or random, fuqem all!
Wow, I wonder why they are so determined to compromise a little forum like Ain't No God?
These attacks are simply directed at the main IP address of this server. I very much doubt the attackers know or care that this website exists. Prolly they just want to compromise another server to use it for criminal enterprises, like spam or malware.
