This is one of those stories where your first reaction is an indignant, "It's about time somebody did something."

Oklahoma Republican state senator Ralph Shortey has proposed a bill to outlaw the use of human fetuses in food. He was convinced of the need for such a law based on his own internet research. He claims that companies use aborted human babies in their R & D to enhance the flavoring of their products. When the interviewer pressed him for more details, he admitted that he wasn't "entirely sure" that companies were doing this, but that the law was needed because "there is a potential" that companies are using human fetuses in their food. Apparently, he considers this a slippery slope that could lead to further horrors, one of which, he says, could be a government program requiring everyone to be organ donors.

It appears there is a religious component in his theories as the article features a picture of him standing in front of his Baptist church bus. He also mentions the evils of stem cell research.

Well, I just hope the people of Oklahoma have learned their lesson. Last year they voted to ban Sharia law in their state, and I read somewhere that Sharia Law forbids the eating of aborted fetuses. Now that there is a pressing need for Sharia law they will have to vote all over again.

His seat isn't up for grabs yet, so it doesn't appear to be a typical election year stunt. Can you link us to the article?

Nevermind, I found one. Here it is:

Ultimately I will not be a customer of SkyDaddy at all. They piss me off, and while it is inevitable there will be people, situations and companies that will piss me off, I don't like to pay for it.

It's good to know that medical issues like psychosis do not prevent Republicans from serving in the Oklahoma legislature. What surprises me is that Sally Kern is allowing other members of the OK legislature to out-crazy her.

What pisses me off the most about guys like this, is that they are looked upon as pillars of their communities. They are given political office from which to spew forth their craziness. Even though their ideas are downright ridiculous.

There may indeed be some opportunities for improvement in human societies. Wouldn't it be nice if some sort of a critical thinking meme were to penetrate the politics in our great nation? This most likely will happen right after I win the lottery.

Please forgive the double post, but I was thinking about this. I know that Oklahomans generally do not want Sharia law because it is the incorrect brand of theocracy, but maybe a compromise is possible. Perhaps exceptions to the ban on baby-flavored foods could be made if the fetus food items are halal?

Perhaps, but personally I would consider any food that contained human fetus's (ewwwww) to be haraam.
