A subsidiary of the noted anti-gay hate group American Family Association called One Million Moms is calling for a boycott of US clothing and merchandise retailer JC Penney because Ellen DeGeneres is acting as a spokesperson or some kind of advertising thing and, hold on for this, One Million Moms found out that Ellen is a lesbian !!!!!!!!!!!!!

One Million Moms, a project of the the American Family Association, called upon JC Penny to fire talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres after she was hired as the company's new spokesperson on Jan. 25 -- a move that led to the Gay & Lesbian Alliance to launch an online campign "standing up" for the out lesbian entertainer and raising awareness about employment discrimination faced by LGBT people.

Religion is like a wallet people use to keep all of their hate organized in one safe place. By protecting bigotry and intolerance in a comfy blanket of religious dogma it is now exempt from criticism because, after all, religion gives it a glowing patina of Sanctity of Bigotry.

The homo activist group GLAAD has started a petition to show support for JC Penney and Ellen.

Just say NO to fundamentalist hate groups using invisible sky monsters to promote bigotry.

I wonder if this might be the tipping point. A lot of people seem to like Ellen DeGeneres and even if they have previously gone along with the fundies, this time they might be saying to themselves, "Hang on a minute - I like Ellen DeGeneres, and I don't want her to get the sack, so maybe it's time I stopped taking advice from these people."

The boldness of the christian right in the US is not on the wane. On the contrary. Examples like this and the recent Komen decision point to their continued pervasiveness in US society. Our "secularity quotient" must be similar to that of third world theocracies.
For example, here is where the US ranks in terms of belief in evolution compared to other westernized nations:

This is a conceivable outcome, I think. We are getting closer and closer to a majority of Americans defending, let alone tolerating, the rights of gay people.

I often see the end of the Ellen show as I loiter in wait of feeding my news addiction on local TV. It seems she appeals to a younger crowd, but my perspective may be distorted by the fact that almost everyone is younger than my ancient self. Anyway, younger crowds are far more likely to defend gay rights than a randomly selected group of fundamentalist homophobes.

The mere fact that an openly gay TV star has a show on a major broadcast network proves I am living in a different world than my teen years when I furtively looked up the word homosexual at the public library, deathly afraid someone would know what exact definition I was reading. There was not a closet too deep for me to find its darkest corner. And look at today, Gay Straight Alliance clubs in so many schools, so much support for young people. It makes I happy :)

Some like to say we have fallen through the looking glass, but I think we are starting to come to our senses.

This is indeed true, but I think it is true simultaneously with the fact that an increasing number of ordinary citizens are seeing through the right wing rhetoric, especially where gay rights are concerned.

As Christianity continues to decline the sky-is-falling hate mongers will become more shrill and desperate. I expect we will see an increase in Christian terrorism too.

I think so, too, and I think the shift toward equality is largely being driven by youth. I'm heartened by my son's and his college friends' attitudes. He and other students on his dorm floor, gay and straight, made a youtube video pushing for the repeal of DADT when the issue was before Congress. Also, I hear them laugh among themselves about homophobic people. It's refreshing, and gives me hope for the future of this country not only on this issue but others as well.

Everybody loves Ellen, I love Ellen. She has a huge following of people that love her. Her show has been very successful. All you have to do is watch her show to see how much people love her. I watch it all the time.

This is just a scare tactic to get a MAJOR company to support the losing battle the religious and conservatives have against gay rights. Their just not powerful enough, and their complaint could easily backlash. America loves Ellen.

I hope this does backfire on the AFA's " One Million Moms. That would be sweet beyond words. Don't mess with Ellen! I really do admire and like her. I feel many others will feel the same as I do and stand up for her. I went and signed the petition right away, it is important to stand up to these guys.

Last week, retail giant J.C. Penney announced a new partnership with America's favorite talk-show host, Ellen DeGeneres. ~ “We share the same fundamental values as Ellen,” noted the company's President, Michael Francis. “At jcpenney, we couldn't think of a better partner to help us put the fun back into the retail experience.”

J.C. Penney and Ellen share the same fundamental values according to the company's President. After making this statement, there is no way they are going to fire her. If for some stupid ass reason they did, I would never shop at J.C. Penney's again. I don't believe they will though. They better not.

It seems to me that the JC Penney response was a very well deserved slap up side the head for the euphemistically named front group operated by professional haters.

As I imagine myself in a crowded JC Penney store it actually does not worry me that homophobic bigots might not be standing next to me because of this boycott.

If JC Penney was trying to earn my approval they succeeded.

Such outrage! One would almost assume that there were some sort of biblical ban on lesbians.

One Million Moms Condemns JCPenney Again For Same-Sex Mother's Day Catalog Photo

Quote

Huffington Post | May 3, 2012

Does the notorious anti-gay group One Million Moms have a personal vendetta against JCPenney?

It would certainly seem that way, as just months after the conservative "online activism campaign" slammed the Texas-based retail group's decision to hire Ellen DeGeneres as its spokeswoman, they're at it again. This time, One Million Moms is taking issue with JCPenney's inclusion of a presumably lesbian couple as part of its Mother's Day catalog.

The photograph in question features two models identified as Wendi and her partner Maggie, along with their daughters. The women appear to be wearing wedding bands.

"OMM has so many issues to cover we had no choice but to move on earlier in the year but have decided to revisit this issue and speak out again," the group writes on its website. "It is obvious that JCP would rather take sides than remain neutral. JCP will hear from the other side so they need to hear from us as well."

They continue, "Last time OMM contacted JC Penney store managers, we were brushed off...OMM has been told that JCP corporate office told store managers to say, 'Thank you' and then walk away. If they want our business, then we will not be ignored!"

Whether or not One Million Moms' latest effort will make a sizable impact remains to be seen, but the failure of their planned boycott following DeGeneres' appointment is telling.

In addition to the DeGeneres debacle, One Million Moms blasted Urban Outfitters last month for a photo of a same-sex kiss which appeared in its catalog, and also condemned Toys 'R' Us for carrying a controversial January issue of Archie Comics, which depicted a gay interracial wedding between two active military officers.

These guys just don't give up. It's like their on a mission from God or something. Oh wait....they are.

One Million Morons stated, "If they want our business, then we will not be ignored!"

Obviously, JCPenny cares nothing for your business. Now go shop elsewhere. :)

OMM is right about one thing: JC Penny is taking sides. The side of fairness and equal rights.
