Target stores have begun selling T-shirts that feature the slogan "love is love" to benefit a pro-gay marriage group fighting the hatemongers for Jesus in Minnesota. Naturally the people who worship a monster they call the God Of Love are enormously upset about this "attack on traditional marriage."

Naturally anybody that sells T-shirts with a slogan like that, well, they are trying to destroy family values.

It sure does not require much stimulation of a Christian's hate gland to get them all worked up over a T-shirt.

Christian hate mongers just don't get it. They really just don't fucking get it. All their doing is making more people leave the Church. Their continuing hopeless and lost fight against gays and same-sex marriage is making them look like the hateful idiots they are. The only ones listening are people who are already on the side of hate and bigotry. Everyone else in the country is shaking their heads and wondering what the hell is wrong with the Christian right.

The Christian right has lost this battle. They know it but they can't stop their hate mongering. The more frustrated they become with their inability to influence the outcome, the more hateful and virulent are their attempts to slander the gay community.

Face it guys, you lost this one. Now fucking go away, we're sick of you and your lies.

From where I stand it seems the majority is on the side of hate and bigotry. I say this because in state after state after state Christian voters keep approving spiteful ballot measures. Normally, of course, people's rights are not put up for a vote, the exception is if they are homos.

In North Carolina recently 62% of the voters chose to prevent gays from having equal rights for all eternity by canonizing their holy hatred in the state constitution. Minnesota will be the next state to do so. My own state has done so.

While it is clear that the tide of history is moving in the direction of fair play and equality in more advanced nations, the Christian majority in the USA continues to vote overwhelmingly in favor of holy hate and sacred bigotry. They are clinging deperately to their holy hatred as if it were a lifeboat.

Where is that damn torpedo?

In another thread, and all over the news lately we hear talk of the need to kill me. I do not like it when people say they want to kill me or have a proxy kill me because they are chicken shit cowards afraid of a sissy.

It's not very nice when you combine mind numbing stupidity with the Sanctity of Bigotry. But when you start adding death threats I sort of resent that.

They are clinging desperately to their holy hatred as if it were a lifeboat.

They are clinging desperately to their hatred because they know they are losing. The more they spew their hate, the more they lose on this issue.

Where is that damn torpedo?

The torpedo has already been fired and it has hit the mark. Education, public awareness, changing cultural attitudes towards gays, gay rights activists, politicians that support gays and same-sex marriage, the list goes on. It's a slow acting torpedo, but it will destroy the target in time.

The more desperate the Christian Right becomes, the more hateful and desperate their message becomes. This has the added benefit of making them look more hateful and moronic. Which is not good for Church attendance nor their standing with Americans that don't subscribe to their hateful doctrine.

The problem with this sort of optimism is that it might not reflect the facts. Well over 100 million Americans, I'm guessing, attend one or another homo-hating Jesus-industry church. I do not see what you describe happening. I see hundreds of millions of American citizens perfectly happy to sit through an hour of gay bashing and then go vote against the values our nation claims to support, like equality, fair play, and even handed government.

I do not share your optimistic view that the leading brand of stupidity in our country is collapsing.

But what is much more disturbing is the way that 99% of Christians let the hate mongers act as their spokespersons and never once complain. Where are the Christians who do not advocate murder? Are they speaking out about this latest round of Republican/Jesus death threats?

In five more months the voters will be approving even more anti-gay legislation in even more states. This will not be a sign that the Jesus industry is losing.

I am honestly surprised that there are no queer guerrilla groups going around blowing up churches. It is quite common for humans threatened with violence to react in a violent way. And why are these Christian preachers who advocate violence never beaten to a bloody pulp? They should be. Not to death though, it would be better if they had to go through life aware that they had been beaten up by a faggot. Maybe Christian preachers who receive this response could also sport a tattoo on their forehead "I Was Beaten Up By a Queer".

In our first civil war it was the North against the South, next time it might be Christians against civilized people.

How about the Christian group that protested the pastor who said put gays in an electrified fence? How about all the death threats against the preacher of the church that allowed the child to sing, "ain't no homos gonna make it to heaven? And the people that protest all the other preachers hateful comments?

There are Christians speaking out in support of the gay community. I've read the articles. It is happening. Even though the loud mouth fundies would have people think otherwise, not every Christian in this country is a homosexual hating fundamentalist.

Then there's the Pew Research Center report that shows growing public support for same-sex marriage. And CBS's recent poll that shows the majority of Americans support same-sex marriage.

The 2010 gallup poll that shows American's acceptance of gay relations crosses 50% threshold.

A April 2012 article in the New York Times, The Electorate Changes, and Politics Follow. On the acceptance of gay marriage in the United States. Mainly fueled by the millennial generation coming of age. But also by older Americans changing their minds.

This article that the majority of Catholics support same-sex marriage.

This story in the Christian Post. Calif. Church Erects Billboard in NC Apologizing for Gay Marriage Ban.

A story at Huff Post about a church that stood up for gay rights closing.

Another story at Huff Post that more blacks in South Carolina approve of same-sex marriage since Obama's announcement.

President Obama's recent coming out in support of same-sex marriage and all the people and institutions that came out with him is certainly a sign of the changing times.

I see hundreds of millions of American citizens perfectly happy to sit through an hour of gay bashing and then go vote against the values our nation claims to support, like equality, fair play, and even handed government.

It's not hundreds of millions of Americans. It is significantly less than that number. As of July 2011, the population of the United States was at 311.6 million. So it can't be hundreds of millions of Americans.

A significant portion of that 311.6 million, aren't fundamental/evangelical Christians. Other religions are represented. Atheists and Nones are in that figure. Mainstream Christians and Catholics who do not hate gays and support same-sex marriage are also part of that figure.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic as you say, but I think my optimism is warranted.

You presented a well documented and persuasive argument. Maybe I just have a tendency to react on an emotional level when multiple people claiming to teach morality suggest I should be executed. I'm not sure if I can explain how much anger boils up inside me, and how frustrating it is not being in a position to kick the shit out of one of these slime.

I would happily spend the rest of my life in prison for two hours alone with one of these gentlemen and a baseball bat. It could be a wooden or aluminum baseball bat. Aluminum might make a sound more pleasing to the ears.

You have every reason to be angry. Having grown up in an era where hatred against gays was rampant and only now is becoming acceptable by mainstream America, you have every right to be angry. I can't imagine the hell these assholes caused in your life. I understand your feelings and sympathize. Hell, I'm not gay and I am furious.

50 years ago, millions of American citizens were fighting against civil rights for black people. 100 years ago, millions of American citizens were fighting against women's right to vote. 150 years ago, millions of American citizens fought a bloody war over whether or not black people should be considered fully human.

In 2062, people will look back on 2012 and scratch their heads wondering why the hell we were even discussing whether gay people should have rights. It may not look that way in 2012, but the arc of history is on your side.
