"Nice political office you've got there, it would be a shame if something happened to it." That seems to be the tone of a threatening email that the RC Archbishop of Philadelphia, Charles Chaput, accidentally sent to a legislator. The regional profit manager had intended only to order a subordinate to persecute a legislator.
Now you may be wondering what the legislator did to piss off one of the world's most corrupt corporations. Apparently he supported a piece of legislation that would extend the existing statute of limitation on child molestation crimes.
For some reason the Holy Catholic Church seems to think this legislation would harm their financial interests. While the record of HRCC in protecting young children from harm might have room for improvement, when it comes to a threat to their money it's all hands on deck!
The Catholic church in Pennsylvania has been accused of employing “mafia-like” tactics in a campaign to put pressure on individual Catholic lawmakers who support state legislation that would give victims of sexual abuse more time to sue their abusers.
The Guardian has the details.
Seriously, why would a bill allowing prosecution of child molesters bother the Catholic Church?
