Happy Seasonal Holiday Gift Man Day to one and all!

At our house we want to be mighty damn sure everybody knows we are not religious.  Indeed, one of my primary goals in life is to avoid participation in any religion.  We all have our strong points and our weak points, we also have our own perceptions of our strong and weak points.  Sometimes they align in bits and pieces.  I consider my lack of religiosity to be a personal accomplishment.

One thing I know about us, we do not subscribe to any sort of theistic delusions.

As part of our ongoing struggle to portray ourselves as areligious we have created our own pagan holiday.  It serves as an alternative to Christmas.  Thus SHGMD.

Seasonal Holiday Gift Man Day was inspired by an episode of The Simpsons and by our own limited familiarity with modern Japanese culture.  It is celebrated on our winter solstice up here on North Earth.

One downside of SHGMD is that it's a bit awkward to work it in to popular songs of the season in place of Christmas.  I mean, just imagine singing:

We wish you a Merry Seasonal Holiday Gift Man Day

We wish you a Merry Seasonal Holiday Gift Man Day

We wish you a Merry Seasonal Holiday Gift Man Day

And a happy next orbit

It just does not flow.   I guess that's the price you pay when you're a cultural trendsetter :-)

Then of course there are gifts.  DH is getting some newly developed navigational gadget for hang gliders.

Happy Seasonal Holiday Gift Man Day everyone!

Here we are, another year, another Seasonal Holiday Gift Man Day. This year DH is getting a weather station, if things work out we'll be able to embed weather data in my webcam images that is precisely local to our property.

I wouldn't mind celebrating Festivus - but I can't be bothered getting an aluminium pole. :)

I wholeheartedly embrace the Festivus tradition of The Airing of Grievances, in fact so much so that I often expand the tradition to any day of the year! (just ask my husband)

Happy Solstice to you too and Happy Festivus.

I won't even complain about how sick to death I am of the Christmas Season, which now starts way before Thanksgiving.

Perhaps a bit of Christmas humor?

What is the relationship between Santa and Satan?

Santa and Satan are anagrams of each other.

Santa is St. Nick.  Satan is Old Nick.

They are both commonly depicted as wearing red.

They both corrupt the souls of the innocent with promises of material goods.

Clearly, they are the same person.
