Just a few days ago he was talking about imaginary time which moved vertically instead of horizontally. I couldn't understand the details but I was impressed that he was still working; still coming up with ideas; still doing interviews - and now he's dead. Sad news indeed.

The silver lining is that science advances by standing on the shoulders of giants. Someone else will continue his work.

He was a great man, and fortunately he was not evil.  In fact he was a good man.

The doctors gave him less than a year to live after his diagnosis.  He went on to live another half century.  We should all consider ourselves fortunate that he was able to stick around for so long.

Hawking overcame an impediment that would have stopped me but I've read that he devoted his life to what does not exist, and cannot empirically be shown to exist: black holes.
