It looks like the Catholic Church's  New Parish Merry Go Round is being shutdown in my native Pennsylvania.

Time is ticking down to a court-ordered deadline Tuesday to decide what information to black out in a forthcoming grand jury report investigating child sexual abuse in six of Pennsylvania’s Roman Catholic dioceses.

Survey says 301 child molesting priests, this is not the entire state of PA I don't think.

It's like any other supernatural horror movie.  You think the monster is dead and gone.  Then they advertise the sequel.

The Church has been around for a long time.  That's a lot of inertia.  Well, grease dissolves.  Teflon scratches.  People revolt.  Ireland has marriage equality and abortion.  America has the rise of the nones.  The Church will continue to be a boil on Humanities backside.  Be patient.  Even the deepest of boils will pop eventually.  People are voting with their feet.  It will take time.  Reality prevails.  There is a process by which religion becomes mythology.

Granted we seldom see these creeps sent to jail, but attendance at Catholic churches has been declining steadily. It turns out most parents have strong feelings about their children being raped. Negative feelings.

Anything that shines the light of truth on HRCC is likely to do some good.

Such lovely optimism, it's a lovely thought and although the process takes time I think you're right.

Even now, how do people remember the old Catholic Church of the Middle Ages?  Ren. Faires.  They dress up as monks, fairies, elves, lords, knights, etc.  (Odd, nobody dresses up like a pesant.)  To me, this is mythology.  The old terror has become quaint.  All pagentry without the foul body odor or lice.

This did not happen quickly, over night.  It took time.  The process continues.  We won't be around to see what future generations do with these memories from our times.  Old horrors do become quaint.

Now the Attorney General of the state of PA is calling a Cardinal a liar.  Of course he is correct, but it seems unusual for gummint folk to tell the truth about religion.

"Cardinal Wuerl is not telling the truth. Many of his statements in response to the Grand Jury Report are directly contradicted by the Church's own documents and records from their Secret Archives. Offering misleading statements now only furthers the cover up." Shapiro added that the cardinal "should heed the words of Pope Francis who validated our work in Pennsylvania and support the recommendations of the Grand Jury."

Calling out a fucking cardinal - I love it.

Will the parishioners be protesting outside the cathedral next Sunday - or inside, tossing money onto the collection plate?

Only a Catholic could make sense of any of this.  Losing faith in the religion -- or the Church -- is a sin -- which has to be confessed -- to a priest......

Oh the morons want to tether members....when I got out, they chased me down to try to lasso me back in big time, until my husband threatened them with police to get them off our porch, banging on the door, & leaning over to pound the living room window!

They are different churches.  Do the Catholics do that sort of thing?

My point.  This is a Catholic scandal.  I was wondering how Catholics are going to handle having to confess their lack of faith in their church.

I was meaning, no religion wants their members losing the faith or whatever, & will go to great lengths to keep them.

Holy cow, well that would be India, but wow. I'm glad your husband threatened them but he certainly should not have had to in the first place.

I got a following letter saying I was to show up to a church ''court''.....with ''witnesses'' to state why I should retain my membership……..AS IF!!! They sure as hell didn't get it that I hadn't been showing up for several years & I didn't want the damn membership! Shortly after not showing up to that farce, I was excommunicated.

Now, I'm impressed.  I was never excommunicated from anything.  Good job.

The closest I ever came, was when the World Light Fellowship revoked my ordination.
