Faith before facts.  Even when they know better.

Original sin is a necessary invention if we are going to make innocent children feel guilty for being alive.

And yeah, this guy does know better but apparently he suffers from cognitive dissonance when the truth is told.

It's so much worse than that.  Without a historic Adam and Eve, there is no Original Sin.  No Fall.  Nothing to be Saved from.  No need for a savior.  No need to be washed Clean, in the Blood of the Lamb.  No need for the Christ.

The whole of Christian theology falls apart, like the House of Cards that it is.

That leaves the Fall of Humanity; not as history but as allegory.  In which case, God becomes allegory.  Once we go there, full on Atheism is only a little bit further, and a lot more honest.

Judaism faces similar challenges.  According to Orthodoxy -- every event in the Hebrew Scriptures -- every event -- Adam and Eve -- Noah's Flood -- The Exodus -- The life of the non-existent Mosses -- every event is on the Jewish Calendar.  It's the Year 5779, dating from the Creation.

But it's worse.  According to the great sages --  [smilie=giggle.gif] -- The Messiah has to get here by the year 6000.  As of right now, just a little more than twenty years.  Good luck with that.

I'm less versed with the problems of Islam.  I suppose we can start with Mohamed, getting on his Flying Horse, and ascending to Heaven.  About fifty miles up, the air starts getting thin.

I digress.  This is why Fundamentalists get so hot over Evolution.  Without a literal, historic Adam and Eve; the whole rotten structure collapses.  It's not like Fundamentalists actually care about Science.
