Cardinal Pell, the number one financial adviser to FtTP, has been found guilty of molesting children.  After all, to be a Catholic Cardinal you first have to be a Catholic priest.

A bullish figure who faced plenty of obstruction, he was known among some officials as "Cardinal Rambo". But that was more a term of endearment – because Pell was having a positive impact on the church's finances.

News of his conviction for child sexual abuse is a grave blow not just to the church, but also to Pope Francis personally.

He was one of the Pope's closest aides.

If there really was a Hell we know where Cardinal Pell would go.

Anecdotal evidence only....

Based on the stories I have heard, Cardinal Pell has a massive ego and expected that he would go down in history as one of the world's greatest Catholics (maybe even fancied himself as 'in with a chance' to become the Pope).

If those stories are true then this conviction will be an even greater punishment than the time he will serve in prison. His dreams of a place in history have been dashed and now he knows that he will never be remembered beyond this generation. (Serves the useless bastard right).

Two observations:

1.  Since the Catholic Church largely created Hell -- maybe they supply the staff for it 's administration.  If any organization is demonic, it's the Church.  In which case, Hell would be a place of privilege for a cardinal.

2.  Considering who actually runs the Catholic Church -- maybe being a child molester is a requisite for climbing the hierarchy.  A club within a club.  Perhaps, even a needed credential.  Is it possible to become an archbishop or cardinal, without raping children?  It could even be an initiation rite for climbing the ladder.  It would explain why Bishops protect the molesters, by moving them around.

I liked the protester who hung the "Crime Scene" tape across the entrance to the Cathedral.

That was good.

What caught my attention, was the defense lawyer.  What does he mean -- vanilla penetration -- and how is that an argument for reduced sentence?  How is any of this a defense?  Raping a 13 year old is vanilla?  What would it take to qualify as kinky -- and how would that be worse?

I was surprised when I heard the crowd slinging shit at the lawyer because everyone has the right to a lawyer no matter what the crime - but then I heard the "vanilla" reference and realised that this particular lawyer is a bit weird.

Vanilla sex is any sex that is not considered weird by narrow minded child rapists.  That raises the obvious question what kind of sex would be so perverted that a Catholic cardinal would think it was weird.  Sorry, I've got nothing.

It was the lawyer -- not the Cardinal -- who said, "Vanilla penetration".  He said this in the context of getting a reduced sentence for his client; because it was only vanilla.

This is the part of the legal thought process, that I find confusing.  That something kinky would get a longer sentence?  Seriously, why would vanilla rape get a shorter sentence?

The legal mind is a scary thing.  Vanilla is not a mitigating circumstance.  It sure isn't a defense.  What's wrong with the lawyer?

Four years -- and that under appeal.  I suppose, it's a start.

How come he still has supporters?

Six, Squire. Thou dost not stop at four unless thou goest on to five, and yea, even unto six shall thou count.  Six shall be the number, not five, not eighteen. Six.

You may have meant the estimate of how long he'll actually be in the lockup, but maybe he'll die first.

How come he still has supporters?

His supporters are all Homo Sapiens, so tragically prone to self defeating religious delusions.

They could have been a good species if they had not killed themselves off with all of that fossil fuel. Oh, sorry, lost the timeline for a minute.

Yes.  Monty Python.

If the Cardinal does die first, the supporters will say that God couldn't wait to see him.  It does sort of make sense.  Look what the Cardinal and God have in common:  Self hating, closeted, abusive, Gay males.  Both of them with an adoring, irrational following, which can not be justified.

I do specify that God is Gay.  Only a closeted Gay male, could be that vicious, towards Gay people.  Of course, God is also blood kinky.  Look at his obsession with foreskins.
