A new mod for SMF would allow me to create new forum messages programmatically, each time importing a specific number of items from any RSS news feed(s). The content of these feeds would then become new posts in specific board(s), as configured.

One way I considered using this is to create a new Forum Category, News Feeds or similar, to contain either RSS freed summaries with links to blogs related to atheism or news items from atheist-related sites.

Another possibility would be to create a bot that finds news stories containing specific terms and create posts from them.

I would implement this by creating new user accounts to be used only by the bots so that the messages they post will stand out as different. I also have the ability to insert a prefix in the subject line of such messages, like [News Bot] or some such. The messages would then become ordinary forum messages that can be replied to and discussed by us humans.

Please use the poll to let us know what you think of this potential new feature.  Perhaps you think this is a bad idea.

I've done a similar thing in the Recipes section of my Sensible Celiac site, if you want to see what I mean.

Well, after my experiences at EA, I'm just a bit leary of "bots", but I suppose their are good ones.

Actually, the idea sounds grand to me, as long as it's not a lot of extra work for you. Heck, as much as you enjoy this kind of stuff, you probably don't consider it work at all!

How about an anagram of "Holy Ghost", like...Gosh Hotly?

or an anagram of "Holy Spirit", like THY OIL RIPS?

Hank works for me! Then when I say "Thank Hank!" I can really mean it. Or how about Pinky?
