An Indiana teacher who serves as journalism adviser for a junior/senior high school newspaper has been placed on paid suspension because a student-written editorial called on kids  to be tolerant of fellow students who are gay.

The paltry excuse used by the principal who has not admitted to knuckling under to Jeebustarian hatemongers is that the editorial was exposed to 11 year old children. The same principal had signed off on an article about sexually transmitted diseases and another article about teen pregnancies.

Apparently it is OK to discuss sexual matters unless the disgusting subject of tolerance is brought into the discussion.  The editorial which sparked the controversy let loose the otherwise well kept secret that gay people do exist, and even went so far as to suggest that their existence should be tolerated.

Won't anybody think of the children?

"The students have tried to go through all the right channels" to address their concerns, Sorrell's said, "but no one will listen to them."

Isn't that the way it always seems to be? I wish adults would stop trying to impose their ideas of "appropriate to their age" on kids. Kids can decide for themselves what is appropriate for their age.

I remember years ago when it was possible to not read something if you did not like it.
