UN to decide on religious defamation law
The United Nations Human Rights Council is expected to vote on a resolution that would support laws banning the defamation of religion. The resolution is being supported by several Islamic countries. But some critics have voiced opposition. Angela Wu of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty testified against the resolution. Rather than promote tolerance, Wu said, such laws stifle religious expression, since they can be used to outlaw any speech that the hearer finds offensive. That could include preaching one religion is truer than another, she added. A decision on the issue is planned for this weekend.

More information here.
(30 March 2007)
http://feeds.feedbur...7427/31600.html
